Fybrel® Synthetic Wood Pulp
Fybrel® is a unique, highly fibrillated, high density polyethylene product which functions as a synthetic version of wood pulp in a variety of wet laid applications, including specialty papers, filtration media, and fully synthetic nonwovens.
Fybrel® is a unique synthetic pulp which is similar to refined cellulose in papermaking properties, but unlike traditional wood pulp, it does not absorb moisture or promote microbial growth. Compared to standard refined or post-fibrillated fibers, Fybrel® has a much more highly branched fibrillated structure, which results in a broad fiber diameter distribution and high surface area. Its resistance to acids and bases makes it functional across the range of pH.
Fybrel® is used in specialty paper applications for thermal bonding and embossability, in battery separator papers due to its chemical resistance, and in fiber cement panels and molded fiber applications to enhance strength. In filtration applications, Fybrel® helps to control porosity and effectively trap solids.
Fybrel® is available in various sizes, CSF, and melt points. It is presented in wet lap sheets, packaged in bale form with moisture contents of 30-66%.
