OPAN properties

Oxidized PAN Fibers

PAN fibers differ from standard Acrylic fibers in that they are made with 100% polyacrylonitrile.  Oxidized PAN, or OPAN, is created by oxidizing the fiber at high temperatures in a controlled air environment to transform it into a high-performance fiber with the following characteristics:

  • Inherent flame resistance
  • No shrinkage; excellent dimensional stability
  • Higher tenacity than standard Acrylic
  • Improved chemical resistance
  • Increased durability

Oxidized PAN does not melt, soften, shrink or drip and has very low toxic gas emissions upon exposure to flame.  It is is electrically non-conductive and offers low thermal conductivity and high dimensional stability.
